

On September 7, 2025, Eubie Boyd Cate, 82, passed away peacefully into the arms of our savior Jesus Christ, surrounded by family. Eubie was born on December 11, 1942 in Blytheville, Arkansas to Mr. and Mrs. Johnie Windell Cate, Sr. (Ruth Virginia Alley).
Eubie graduated in 1961 from White Station HS, he is remembered by his high school classmates as a “Swell guy” and most notably as the “President, king of the smoking tree”.
Eubie served active duty during the Vietnam conflict with the United States Airforce, 3rd Fighter Wing (PACAF), leaving with an honorable discharge as a Buck Sergeant. He earned the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He returned to Vietnam as a civilian contractor and married the love of his life. They moved to Florida in 1971 and had five children together.
Eubie was a master mechanic and worked at Compressed Air Systems for 32 years until he retired. He was baptized by confession of faith at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Blytheville,Ak and later transferred his membership to Palm Lake Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in St. Petersburg, Fl where he served as a deacon and played softball on their co-ed softball team.
Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife Ky Thi Cate, daughters Elizabeth, Ruth, Hannah, Ky Thi and son Raymond Cate. Son in laws Joseph DelCastillo and Paul Rebis Sr. Grand children KayLa, Kent Jr., Shira, Katie, Jacob, Nicholas, Matthew, Deja, Faith, Vincent and Paulie. Nieces Rebecca Temme and Andrea Cate. Cousins Hamblen Alley, William Hastings, James Allen Hastings, and many more loving family members.
Eubie was predeceased in death by his loving parents JW Cate Sr. and Ruth Cate, brother JW Cate Jr. and sister in law Juliet Cate, Niece Cindy Connelly, Uncle Howell Alley, Aunt Frances Alley and Aunt (Baby) Luella Hastings, welcoming him into the arms of the lord.
A gathering of family & friends for Eubie will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, Florida 33511, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 PM.
