Frank was born in Charlotte, NC on January 1, 1937 to Mildred and Frank Porter. He was raised in Temple Terrace, FL and was a 1954 graduate of Hillsborough High School in Tampa, FL, where he met his late wife, Minnie. They were married for 40 loving years.
Frank received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1958. The close friendships he formed at Hopkins remained with him his entire life and were amongst his best friends. His professional career took him to Omaha NE, New Jersey/New York, Connecticut (where he and Minnie raised their three girls in Trumbull), Pennsylvania and Delaware. Taking an early retirement at the age of 55, Frank began volunteering for the International Executive Service Corps, travelling with Minnie to Egypt and Peru. He spent the last 20 years in “paradise” in Venice, FL where he thoroughly enjoyed every day of his life with his brother Bill nearby and many close endearing friends. Always looking to help others Frank volunteered for 15 years with Habitat for Humanity building homes. He loved to share his slice of paradise with his three girls and four grandchildren. Frank stood for all the goodness in the world—kindness, positivity, empathy, patience, encouragement, and generosity. All who knew or encountered him loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed.
Frank was predeceased by his parents and his wife Minnie. He is survived by his brother Bill, daughters Jennifer, Amy, and Heather, and his four grandchildren Joelle, Riley, Sofia, and Sydney.
Frank’s memorial service will be held at Hillsboro Memorial Gardens, 2323 W Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL on March 9th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to “Habitat South Sarasota” in Frank’s honor or via Habitat South Sarasota in Memory of Frank Porter.
