George "Sonny" Kotala

George "Sonny" Kotala, 67, of Apollo Beach, Florida, left for Heaven on February 10, 2021, due to complications with leukemia. Sonny worked for the City of Pinellas Park for 34 years before nearly retiring as their Finance Administrator. Prior to that, he started his career at Briggs, a Division of Jim Walter Corporation, where he met his wife.

Sonny is survived by Cathy, his loving wife of 42 years, his 2 sons: Justin Kotala (Sabrina) and Eric Kotala (Laura), his sister Cheryl Selvey, his mother-in-law Margaret Ballenger, his sisters-in-law: Connie Snyder (Dana), Carol Bodden (John), Caryn Hibdon, Donna Watson (Jimmy), brothers-in-law: Rocky Stephens (Lisa), Chip Ballenger (Missy), and numerous and very loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

All those who knew Sonny will remember him as a devoted, caring, and loving husband, dad, uncle, cousin, friend, and boss. Sonny was an avid lover of pets and will be extremely missed by his fur babies, Riley and Roxy. Sonny will be remembered for his love of sports and music, especially his favorite band, The Beatles.

A viewing and service will be held at Stowers Funeral Home in Brandon, on Saturday, February 20, 2021. The viewing and receiving of friends will start at 12:00 p.m., with the service being held at 1:00 p.m. Sonny's wish is to be cremated, therefore, there will be no grave side service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sonny's memory to the following: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) and Harmony Vet Care (harmonyvetcare.org), or any animal charity of your choice.
