Last but not least her furry grandchildren: Meme, Neno, Sebastian, Tina, Shelby, Floppy Joe, Kasey, Jasper, Booger, Loretta, Lewis, Dickens, Sammy, Jenna, Maggie, Royce, Alyra, Stryker, Ryder, Mindy and Kyla.
Our Mother was small but Mighty! She was so very passionate about her family! She started at a young age taking care of her siblings and then Motherhood! Our Mother made sure her family never wanted for anything! She took care of 5 children alone, and did it better than any women I know! The strength in her was like a DeVine power, no matter what she faced she did it with Grace and Dignity! The Love she showed for her grandchildren and great grandchildren is unmatched! Thank you, Mom, for teaching us, how to take care of ourselves so we may never need a man or woman to! We all learned how to work, cook, clean, cut grass, change a tire, or sew, lol!
As we were going through her belongings, we come to know even more about her in regards to keeping notes for everything! She would write everything down on post it notes and then have another note on that note. She wrote everything down; at the beginning of the year, she would write out everyone's cards for the celebration and holidays so she would not miss giving it to us! When people sent her stuff like cards in the mail, she would cut out the left corner to make sure she kept the address. She bought
an outfit for her great-grandson Chance and wrote down on the receipt that he was a size 3t, just the type of stuff she would do.
The compassion she showed to others like this one time of many I'm sure.... My friend was in need and she went with me to the store, to help me pick up some food by the time we left she ended up spending $300 alone and told my friend no repayment is needed as it was meant as a blessing! Our Mother was not rich by any means but she was so very rich with love, joy and compassion!
Patience was another great quality she possessed, like when our brother Jimmy called the fire department telling them his mother was in a burning house!!!! Another, time when she was notified to come identify my brother Eugene when he had his accident, she was so composed! We never knew if she was scared or nervous as she never showed it! She protected us even from ourselves when needed! When Linda had her daughter Melissa, that night they were leaving for the hospital and she said Linda had a belly ache and then came home with her beautiful and talented daughter Melissa a few days later never got over her having a belly ache and coming home with a baby, LOL! Sherri gave our mom a run for her patience! Like the time Sherri came home in the ambulance when she wrecked her bike on Busch! Even when the police brought her to the house for jumping her bike on the hills across the street when they were digging the retention pond! Our mom always told Sherri she, had a Calvin Klein taste on a Kmart blue light special budget! As for our brother Johnny, when he separated, our mom opened her home and heart to help him and then when he cut his arm at work and almost died, she was there every day no matter how much pain she was in she put all of us first! Our mother would go without eating to make sure we ate and if there was food left, she would eat or just have her cup of black coffee. One of the most cherished memories for us children would be every Saturday, she would cook biscuits and gravy in the morning and at 2p.m. sharp she would pop popcorn and we would all gather around to watch Creature Feature with Dr. Paul Barrer! She would wait until we were deep into the show and jump out the chair and go “yah” and then giggle like crazy cause all of us would jump! Then on special
occasions when she got her bonus checks she would pack us up in the car and make Cuban sandwiches, chips, popcorn and sodas back the station wagon up open the back and we would watch movies at the drive-in theatre’s.
Melissa is mom’s first grandchild born 3 days before her birthday they were Scorpio twins. Mom used to call Linda at her job to see if she could take Melissa on her days off and they would walk to the mall and shop! She purchased this strawberry short cake doll and bought her a pair of red boots which Melissa would not give them up until they fell apart and it was a struggle then! I know our mother would want to say thank you to Melissa for being there taking care of her through all of her doctors appts, stayed in the hospital weeks at a time. Making sure no one would make a mistake or hurt her as she would never let anything happen!
A poem our brother Johnny wrote her for birthday:
A Mother’s Love is never forgotten! Her children’s upbringing shown throughout their lifetime. Her love follow’s them and when something is wrong, she always knows! And somehow throughout her upbringing’s she always knows what to do. When we are feeling down, she’s always in our memories making our hearts warm and filled. I Love You Mom! Mom Happy Birthday and many more Johnny
She made him read it 2x to her, she loved and cherished it.
As a closing we would like to share a bible verse she loved it was, Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart! May we all remember her through our lives with Joy and Happiness she brought to us all!
Loving Memories of our Mother Geraldine Mae Hendrickson!
