Born on February 16th, 1954 in Huntsville, AL, Jimbo was the cherished son of Pink and Christine Atnip. Jimbo grew up in Harvest, AL with four siblings. He grew up with a love for the great outdoors and a passion for Alabama football that remained with him throughout his life. He graduated from Sparkman High School in 1972 and met Teresa “Terri” Wigley in 1977 on a blind date through two mutual friends. Jimbo’s final years were spent in Lithia, Florida to be closer to their grandchildren and the warm sunshine.
An avid hunter, Jimbo found solace and joy in the wilderness. The thrill of the hunt and the tranquility of the woods were his sanctuary, a place where he felt most at peace. His knowledge and respect for nature were passed down to his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories and traditions that will be cherished for generations.
His unwavering support for the Alabama Crimson Tide was legendary. Saturdays were dedicated to cheering on his beloved team, and his enthusiasm for Alabama football was infectious. Jimbo was known for his kindness and generosity. He was a man of integrity and always willing to lend a helping hand. His presence brought warmth and joy to those around him, and his legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
