

James “Jim” Neil LaMar, of Valrico, Florida, passed away at the age of 67, on February 9, 2026 of Vascular Dementia. Born September 6, 1958 in Richmond, Indiana, and raised in Centerville, Indiana to Truman S. LaMar and Ruth Marguerite Krick LaMar, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sheryl Ann Ellis LaMar; his daughter, Jaime Nicole LaMar; his sister, Judi Tsiguloff (Jeff); his niece, Laura Tsiguloff, and nephew, Eric Tsiguloff (Briana); his brother-in-law, David Ellis (Maritza); his nephew, Chris Ellis, and niece, Leah Ellis; his sister-in-law, Rebecca Mathes (Al); and his nieces, Alexandria and Sierra Mathes.
Jim majored in Accounting at Indiana University and earned his MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Jim achieved many accomplishments that reflected his discipline and drive. He was an Eagle Scout, Valedictorian of Centerville High School, and graduated in the top 1% of Indiana University. During his freshman year, he played trombone for the Indiana University Marching 100. In his professional career, Jim worked as a CPA for Deloitte, Haskins & Sells Accounting Firm, Cummins Engine, Hewlett-Packard, and multiple small businesses.
Jim was an avid runner, loved swimming, spending time at the beach, and cheering for his favorite teams, including; Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Tampa Bay Rays. Jim was known for his incredible knowledge of seemingly everything. Family dinners often turned into trivia nights, with Jim proudly hosting and amazing everyone with his vast knowledge.
Above all, Jim was a man of strong faith and deep devotion to God and his church. His faith guided his life and shaped his character even through his battle with dementia. Jim will be remembered as a compassionate mentor, a loyal friend and a loving husband and father. His memory will live on in the lives he touched, the love he gave, and the faith he carried.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on March 7, 2026 at Baylife Church, located at 1017 Kingsway Road, Brandon, FL 33510, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jim’s memory to the Dementia Society of America at dementiasociety.org/donate.
