

Newnam, Joyce (Joy) Arleen, 57, of Brandon passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012. She was born June 5, 1955 in Martinsville, Virginia to George and Wilma Newnam. Survivors include her mother; brother, George, Vesta, VA; sisters, Jane Hampton (Michael) Hampstead, NC, and Joanna Kellogg (Michael) Brandon; nephews, Todd and Brian Hampton (Dana) Hampstead, NC and her beloved cats Yogi and Star.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 8, at 2:00 PM at Eureka Springs Park, 6400 Eureka Springs Road, Tampa, 813-744-5536. The service is being handled by Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon.
Joyce was known for her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes. She traveled all over the world and loved the beauty of the country and people she met. She was a passionate environmentalist. While serving on the Executive Committee of the Sierra Club, she was instrumental in saving Cone Ranch public land from development. She was a member of the East Hillsborough Democratic club and was the Florida media liaison in the ‘08 Dennis Kucinich presidential campaign. She wanted more than anything peace on earth and truly believed in his efforts to create a Department of Peace.
Joyce loved acting and was a member of the Florida Motion Picture and Theater Association (FMPTA) and the Florida Film Network and recently had parts in several short films and movies. Her desire was to promote world peace and awareness of social and environmental issues through her roles. Donations in Joyce’s name may be sent to your local SPCA or Humane Society. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
