Born on November 18, 1956, in Newport, RI, he was the son of James Richard Morrissey, USN, Retired of Homosassa, FL, and the late Joan Elizabeth Grover Morrissey.
Besides his wife and father he leaves a son, Corey Christopher Morrissey (Sarah) and two grandsons Aidan Michael and Conner Christopher of Spring, Texas. He also leaves two sisters, Mary M. Handsel (Greg) of Tarpon Springs and Noreen M. Prescott of Palm Harbor; three brothers, Kevin Morrissey (Becky) of Middletown, RI; Sean Morrissey (Jennifer) of Clearwater and Patrick Morrissey (Jennifer) of Atlantic Beach; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late William and Donald Morrissey.
While growing up in a Navy family he lived in Puerto Rico; Charleston, SC; Newport, RI; and Norfolk, Va. He was a 1974 graduate of Kempsville High School in Va. Beach, Va.
A lifelong sports participant and fan he became an avid bowler in later years with several 300 games on record. Mr. Morrissey enthusiastically pursued hobbies as a baker, an avid reader and as an artist working with mirrored glass.
Mike also loved animals. Our dog Bear meant everything to him. Bear is the neighborhood dog. Mike would take him for walks everyday around the whole neighborhood. Mike’s other best friend was Yogi, Mike’s friend, Bill Skiffington’s dog and Bear’s best friend. While on his walks he would leave dog treats for Yogi at a tree at his front door. Mike called it the cookie tree. Yogi would check the tree every time he came out.
Mike's other love was cruising. He first cruised in Decemeber 1998 and loved it. We tried going on cruises at least once every two years. Mike and I enjoyed cruising with our best friends and cruising buddies, Ann & Richard Wallis and John & Kathy Peters. Cruising won't be the same without him.
Mr. Morrissey worked for several window, mirror and glass companies in Virginia Beach, VA, Dunedin, FL and Brandon. Later he worked as an early voting poll worker for the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office at the Jan Platt Library. His final job was for the US Census Bureau in Brandon as manager for quality control.
