Rose Marie Carter was born to the late Douglas Ratford Sr. and Luessie Becton Ratford on November 24th 1946 in Brooklyn NY. Rose was one of seven children her formal education was received in the New York City public school system graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School.
She then graduated from Northeastern Collegiate Bible Institute in Essex Fells, New Jersey in 1971. While attending college she traveled extensively to several countries with young people conducting bible studies. After graduation she was employed by Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn New York, for several years as a secretary. Shortly after she worked at the IBM Manufacturing Brooklyn Plant for nine years as a secretary specialist supporting senior management. During her tenure at IBM she received several accolades for the submission of suggestions to improve the business as well as volunteering for community service.
Later she worked for the Rochdale Village Community Center supporting security management. After retiring she moved to Florida with her husband, George Carter, in 1997 and they resided in Brandon, Florida.
She worked for in Brandon for Weed and Seed Code Enforcement in Administration.
Rose was a faithful member of East End Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. She attended New Berean Baptist Church while residing in Florida. She was committed to programs at the church and supporting the community by participating faithfully in bible study and volunteering with the food bank program. Rose was very kind and caring and went out of her way to support the church as well as many friends and family.
Rose loved the Lord and was always sharing his goodness with others. She never met a stranger who did not become a friend.
Rose was preceded in death by her late husband George J. Carter and her sisters (the Late) Arlene Ratford and Irene Washington. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her sisters Audrey Johnson (Winston), Barbara Ann Ratford, Donna Woodfine (Anthony) and her brother Douglas Ratford Jr. (Pat) and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives, church members and dear friends.
Rose was known for hugging and kissing the cheeks of babies. Always greeting them with a warm smile
Saying hey darling let me kiss those cheeks.
