Samuel T. Hughes III loved his family and friends!!!

As a Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Coach, Pop-pop, Friend, Neighbor, Classmate, Co-worker, or Athlete, Sam was loved and respected in return. Preceded in death by his mother, Tabitha Hughes, and father, Samuel T. Hughes Jr.; Sam is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patti; daughter Courtney, sister Shirley Rhodes, and grandchildren: Jayden and Lilly. His contagious laugh will be remembered with a smile and a chuckle.

Sammy’s journey started in Dover, DE with a passion for sports. Early on, he excelled in baseball and football but thoroughly enjoyed any sport he played. Sam coaching Courtney’s Minors & Majors Little League Softball to the State Championship was fondly reminiscent of his Senior Little League State Championship. Thanks to everyone that brought him happiness throughout his life while throwing horseshoes on Corpus Christi beaches, riding dirt bikes at Croom, FL or the CO mountains, golfing in TX & FL, water & snow skiing in FL & CO, or playing with the beach ball in his pool.

Professionally, Sam programmed systems many use indirectly today (Dominos and General Motors) then spent several years as the IT Manager of an insurance company. The ultimate Do-It-Yourselfer, his larger projects included expanding his Valrico home and finishing his Mountain Joy cabin basement in Murphy. Always willing to help others, Sam earned the reputation as the Go-To guy.

Sam’s Celebration of Life will be held on August 27, 2024, from 6:30 – 9:00 PM at Loblolly Acres:

3893 Turkey Point Rd. Viola, DE 19979. The Sunset Memorial will start at 7 PM, followed by dinner and camaraderie sharing Sam/Sammy stories.

The incredible staff at St. Joseph’s Hospitals cared for Sam & family during the 11 days when his lung and brain cancer showed itself.
