Shawn Michael Trenker of Brandon, Florida, was hit by a car and killed on January 16, 2023. Shawn was 23 Years old. He is survived by his mother, Debbie; his father and stepmother, Karl and Tanya; and his siblings, Brittany, Timothy, Kristopher, Thomas, Katerina and Karlina Trenker, and Issabella and Michael Saiz.
Shawn was an extremely gifted athlete. As a toddler, he watched his older sister play fast pitch softball and it wasn’t too long before he was completely engulfed in baseball himself. His passion for baseball was fueled during his time with his mother, an unapologetic and lifelong Yankees fan. As a teen, he picked up surfing and shared that passion with his father. Always the adventurer, he loved to hunt boar with his father and together, they once took down a 350 pound boar with a hunting dog and a fighting knife. He lived with his dad and stepmom in Seoul, South Korea, and then in Abu Dhabi in The United Arab Emirates. Shawn had many escapades in both countries involving camels, hyenas, falcons, sharks and 10 retired US veterans that would pay for unique events just to watch Shawn do them. He had a zest for life, an unquenching smile, and a laugh that would melt your heart.
Shawn’s promising baseball career was sidelined in his late teens by addiction. On December 16, 2022, Shawn decided to change his situation. He and his father drove to the Tallahassee Men’s Rehabilitation Center. There, Shawn accepted Christ and asked God to take over for his recovery. In the weeks before his death, Shawn had conversations with his father about getting back in baseball with hopes of joining a farm team. He dreamed once again of becoming a professional baseball player.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to The Shawn Trenker Memorial Fund which benefits the Adult and Teen Challenge of Southeast Region, Tallahassee, Florida.
A visitation for Shawn will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stowers Funeral Home, 401 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511, followed by a funeral service from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
