Shirley Nelligan

Shirley was born on March 15, 1956 to Harry R Slater and Margaret N Friss Slater in Catskill, New York.

Shirley graduated from Sharon Springs Central School in Sharon Springs, New York in 1974.

She received an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Human Services from Schenectady County Community College in 1978 and a Bachelor of Science Degree with Magna cum Laude in Criminal Justice from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York in 2001.

Shirley had a gratifying career as a court advocate for domestic violence victims while working at Unity House in Troy, New York. Upon retirement she moved to sunny and warm Florida where she continued her love for human services by working at Pyramid, Inc. which provides services for adults with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her sons, Brian Nelligan of Plattsburgh, New York and David Hilt of Troy, New York. Other survivors include her sisters, Mary Sieder (Mark) of Glenville, New York, Joyce Slater of Sharon Springs, New York, Erma Yerdon (Frank) of Seffner, Florida; nieces Regina Matthews (Russell) of Milford, New Hampshire, Lisa Geren (Frank) of Waterford, New York, Melissa Interess (Darrell) of Burlington, Massachusetts, Michael Bartlett (Lisa) of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Marc Yerdon of Seffner, Florida, Kyle Yerdon (Jerry) of Orlando, Florida and several great nieces and nephews.

Services will be provided by Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, Brandon, Florida and Bramanville Prospect Cemetery, Howes Cave, New York at a later date.

Contributions in memory of Shirley may be made to a Hospice of your choice or Unity House, Troy, New York.
