It is with much sadness that the family announces the passing of Bertha Gemmell, on Friday, April 17th, 2015, at Telfer Place at the age of 87. She was born on July 20, 1927 in Czechoslovakia to Paul and Anna Polzer. Loving wife of the late John Gemmell. Cherished mother of Ian (Doris), Phil (Gillian), Martin (Mary), and Mark (Sue). Adored grandmother to Melissa, Samantha, Billy, Tommy, Natalie, Carmen, Paul, Martina, Christopher, Barbara and Michelle. Survived by her brothers Fred (Helli) Polzer, Paul (Barbara) Polzer and Otto (Monica) Polzer. Bertha was an RNA and worked for many years at the Brantford General Hospital. She loved camping and long walks in nature. The family wish to thank the staff at Telfer Place for their care. A celebration of Bertha’s life will be held Tuesday, April 21st, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm at the “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME – CARRIAGE HOUSE”, 96 West Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Friends of Algonquin Park would be appreciated by the family.
