Doreen Shiels

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Evelyn Doreen Shiels on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017, at Tranquility Place in her 88th year. Wife of the late David Shiels (2016). Loving mother of Brian and Gail Merritt, Donna Ferguson, Susan Hager and Ernie Gawdun and family. Much loved Nana of Brenda, Shelby, Julie and Brett. Great –Nana of Brittany (Gerry), Curtis, Reece, Rowan, Quinn, Conlan, Landon, Natalie and Brenna and Great-Great-Nana of Zoey. Sadly missed by siblings Helen White and Glenn Carr and in-laws Pat Hart and Carol and Bill Nolan. Doreen was truly happy when surrounded by her family and she excelled at everything she did! She was a beautiful seamstress and an avid athlete; the Bowling Captain at Echo Lanes Bowling League, Games Captain of ladies’ golf for Northridge Golf Club, she curled with the Paris Curling Club and she was also an avid Bridge Player. Doreen was also the Social/Food Coordinator at Sydenham- Heritage United Church for over 30 years. The family will receive friends at the “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL”, 96 West Street, on Tuesday, April 25th, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Sydenham-Heritage United Church, 120 Sydenham St.,Wednesday, April 26th, 2017 at 1pm.
