It is with profound sadness that the family of Melvin Penrose announces his peaceful passing at Tranquility Place with his best friend and beloved wife Bette at his side on Thursday July 16, 2010. He will be missed by his three children, Paul Penrose, Beverly Penrose-Smith ( J.T. 1999) and John Penrose (Justine). He loved and was very proud of his 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his brothers Donald (Evelyn) and Gerry (Marion 2009) and his sisters Mary Francis (Ralph) and Janice Obe (Doug 2008). He is predeceased by his parents Joseph (1971) and his mother Adaline Wilson (1994) as well as his sister-in-law Jean Rosco (2009). Melvin was a WWII veteran having served in the Canadian Army as a gunnery instructor at CFB Borden. Melvin was a prominent and successful Real Estate Broker in Brantford for over 40 years and will be fondly remembered by many friends and business Associates. He was a life time member and past president of the Brantford Club and will be missed by all the friends he made there over the years. “ God be with you , till we meet again” The family wishes to thank the staff at Tranquility Place for their care and support as well as CCAC and his care givers Christine, Cal and Darlene.
The family will receive friends at the “THORPE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL” 96 West Street on Sunday July 18th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Basil’s Roman Catholic Church, 50 Palace Street on Monday July 19th at 11 am with cremation to follow. A celebration of his life will take place at the Brantford Club, 98 George Street following the service.
