On May 5, 1912, an angel was sent to earth. On Thursday May 6, one day after her 98th birthday our angel was granted her wings and was returned to Heaven.
Nellie was an amazing woman. She was born to the late Rose and Anthony Ostryznik in Kenora, Ontario. She was one of four children. She is survived by her beloved sister Stella Wilk, and brother Carl (Sharon) Ostryznik. She is predeceased by her brother Frank, sisters-in-law Mary Ostryznik, Marjorie Ostryznik and brother-in-law Walter Wilk. She is also predeceased by her loving nephew Teddy Nowak.
Nellie was married to the late John Novak ( deceased1968). They started their life together in Kenora, Ontario, and later in 1941 moved to Brantford with their six children. Once in Brantford they expanded their family to 10 children. Nellie loved and treated each child equally. She devoted her entire life to her family. Left to mourn their great loss is Edward(Doris); Lawrence(Joan); Mimi (Bolaslo Pacan); Carl (Jay); Henry (Mary); Fran (Bill Dmetriuc); Bernice ( Tom Gardner); Danny (Trudy); Tom (Joan) and her youngest child Vicky and her husband Paul O’Connor who were her loving and devoted caregivers for the past 20 years. They allowed Mom to remain in her own home until the end.
Also left to mourn are her 25 grandchildren, (predeceased by dear granddaughter Liza) along with 31 great grandchildren. She was sad she would not see her new great grandchild Baby Dmetriuc, due in June. She will also be sadly missed by many nephews, nieces, cousins and their families.
Nellie will be forever loved and never forgotten by her family. She was a special Mother and a tremendous source of strength to her loved ones. Her family love and miss her deeply but are thankful that she enjoyed a long and wonderful life, that she was able to remain independent and that her mind was clear and sharp to the day of her death.
She was a long time member of St. Basil’s Church and the C.W.L. In later years she enjoyed and looked forward to visits from Father Don.
The family will receive friends at the “Thorpe Brothers Funeral Home and Chapel” 96 West Street on Sunday from 2 pm. to 8 pm. Rosary to be recited at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Basil’s Church, 50 Palace Street on Monday May 10th at 10 am. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Nellie requested donations to be made to St. Basil’s ( Rectory Restoration Fund).
On line condolence may be made at www.thorpebrothersfh.com.
“ May you celebrate life into eternity as much as we will celebrate the memories, love and devotion that you so lovingly gave and shared with us.”
