

David E. Borcherding, born in 1938 to Ernest L. and LaVerne J. (Vieth) Borcherding in Fremont, Nebraska passed away peacefully, Friday 2/11/22, at his home with his wife and 3 children at his side. He was 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sam Borcherding and Jon Borcherding and his sister Sandra (Keller) Borcherding.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Borcherding, his 3 children Jeff Borcherding and wife Michelle, Darla (McKenna) Borcherding and husband Michael and Brian Borcherding and wife Donna, his brother Dennis Borcherding and wife Judy, four brother in-laws and three sister in-laws. He had 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
David and his family moved from Nebraska to Washington during the war when his farther obtained work at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Dave graduated from Peninsula High School then enlisted in the US Navy. He was stationed at Pacific Beach Washington where he and his crew aided in the building of the base there. He also served time on a destroyer. While he was stationed at Pacific Beach he met the love of his life, Shirley. They were married in 1960 after his honorable discharge from the Navy.
After leaving the Navy, he and wife Shirley moved to Bremerton Washington where he held various jobs prior to starting his career in banking and finance. They moved to Seattle for a short time while he worked at Household Finance and then went back to Bremerton when he was hired at then Navy Yard Metal Trades Credit Union. It was in Bremerton that son Jeff and daughter Darla were born. Shortly after having his first 2 kids, they moved to Olympia, where son Brian was born. He became the CEO of then Social and Health Services Credit Union where he made many innovative and technological advances to the credit union. His knowledge of computer programming led him to Peter Kiewit Construction who was building the Satsop Nuclear Power Plant in Grays Harbor Washington. He helped program the systems at the Satsop plant as well as the systems at the oil pipeline plant in Prudhoe Bay Alaska. He also owned and operated a small data entry company and was instrumental in the building of 2 of the family homes they resided in in Olympia.
The family moved back to Bremerton in 1983 where Dave took on the role of CEO of then Kitsap Federal Credit Union where he worked for many years retiring to become a mortgage broker. He owned and operated several other small businesses as well during that time. As a mortgage broker he took great pride in making dreams come true for so many by giving them the gift of home ownership. He retired one day before his 80th birthday.
Dave loved fishing, sailing, flying and camping among other things. He obtained his commercial pilots license in 1972 and took the family on many trips. Later, camping became his passion and went camping often spending time with his family and friends in many different exciting locations.
He served on many charitable foundations including the Capital Lakefair Committee, the Fathoms of Fun Committee and he was a member of the Elks Club.
Dave was an amazing man who adored his family, loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was full of compassion and always available to lend assistance to anyone that needed it. The great advice he gave people over the years undoubtedly helped them in life. He will be greatly missed, forever loved and never forgotten
