Dean Eustice Dunn Jr, 81, a 46-year resident of Bremerton, went to be with the Lord on January 25th, 2022. The Dunn and Nuckols families lost their patriarch, cherished husband, loving father, and favorite grandpa when he passed away from cardiac arrest while doing what he enjoyed the most, tinkering in his yard.
Dean was born in Akron Panama December 23rd, 1940 as the youngest of three children to Navy Lieutenant Commander Dean E Dunn Sr, and Florence D. Dunn. Dean followed his father’s military example and joined the US Navy in 1959. He spent 20 years in faithful service and retired in 1979 as a Chief Torpedoman’s Mate. Dean met his first wife, Joan M Browne in 1963 while visiting Nova Scotia Canada. They married in 1964. Dean and Joan lived a life filled with adventure and love until Joan passed away in 2010. Dean is predeceased by his parents Dean and Florence, his siblings Mary Covello and Victor (Tom) Dunn.
Dean began attending Peninsula Bible Fellowship in 2011 where he met his second wife Birgitta Birch; originally from Edsbyn Sweden. Birgitta brought joy and love back to Dean and his family and added warmth and immeasurable kindness to the entire Dunn family. Dean and Birgitta were married at PBF on September 29th, 2012. Dean had a deep spiritual experience as he sat next to Birgitta at PBF which led him to commit his life to Jesus. He dedicated his life to sharing that love of Jesus with others and openly prayed for each person to experience the joy that he felt. It is with this knowledge of Dean’s devotion to our Lord and Savior that his family enjoys the greatest comfort and assurance that Dean is in the presence of God where he is happily waiting for us to reunite.
Dean is survived by Birgitta, his daughters Patricia (George) Walz of Bremerton WA, Deana (Kevin) Decker of Callahan FL, and grandchildren Kyle (Carrie) Decker of Bremerton, Alyssa (Josh) Canady of Auburn, Alexandria and Brianna Decker of Callahan FL, and Birgitta’s children Britta Evens of Everett WA, Bennett Nuckols of Phoenix AZ, and Brent (Holly) Nuckols of Poulsbo WA. Dean is survived by grandchildren, Scott, Ryan, Peter, Dale, Joshua, Clarice, Elizabeth, Daniel, Cindy, Marclane, Jonathon, Stephany, and Kimberly. Dean had 9 great grandchildren.
Deans’ ashes will be scattered during a Naval Burial at Sea ceremony in Mayport FL where he will lay to rest in the waters that he sailed along with his father Dean Sr. and brother Tom. The family, members of PBF and friends will join together to honor Dean in a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Peninsula Bible Fellowship Church.
Dean lived his life sharing love, knowledge and seeking ways to make others happy in any way possible. He never met a stranger, nor could he pass by the opportunity to share his faith in the Lord. He is best known for his big laugh, quick wit and joy for life and adventure, His dynamic personality and genuine love for people touched many lives. He was a rare and treasured gem whose loss will be felt deeply by so many. This sailor has stood the watch and now stands relieved.
Fair Winds and Following Seas, Dean; until we meet again.
