

Our beloved Grandpa, Father-in-Law, and friend to many, Duane Dean Phillips, 81, of Central Valley, died peacefully on August 6, 2013 at Liberty Shores, Harbor House where he had been residing since December 2012. Our heartfelt thanks go to the wonderful staff at Liberty Shores, especially second floor Harbor House, for their excellent and compassionate care of Grandpa during the final months of his earthly journey.
Duane was born on December 12, 1931 at the family home near Logan, Kansas to Ray & Wanda (Weaverling) Phillips, joining older brother Robert. The family relocated to Bremerton in 1936. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1949.
His army service 1951-54 included a tour in Korea. He returned to Bremerton and became a design technician at PSNS, retiring in 1986. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Zelda Dorothy Evans, stepson Roy Reece and stepdaughter Elizabeth Johnson. He is survived by stepson Byron Reece of Montana, 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion, Albert C. Kean Post 149, 4922 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, WA 98312. Grandpa was a 42 year continuous member, and they have wonderful programs such as holiday food baskets and scholarships for high school juniors to attend Boys and Girls State. We would be very pleased for you to support them in his honor. Services will be held at Miller-Woodlawn on August 24. Viewing is at 9:00 a.m. and service is at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel, followed by burial with military honors in Lily. Everyone is invited to join the family for a gathering at daughter-in-law Carol Reece's home, 10722 Kelly Court NE, Poulsbo (Central Valley) at the conclusion of services at Miller-Woodlawn.
