

He was born on August 4, 1944, in Bearden, Arkansas, to his parents Earnest Ryan and Mary Walker. Earnest was the oldest of his eight siblings, Claude Harrison, Irene Harrison, Boyd Ryan, Robert Ryan (Susan), Sam Cambell (Nancy), John Harrison (Carrie), and Wanda Roberts (Owen).
At the age of 17, Earnest left Highland High School a year early to join the United States Army, beginning a dedicated and honorable service to his country. On August 6, 1968, he married the love of his life, Rose Marie Plant, in Cowiche, Washington. Together, they raised three children named Earnest Jr Ryan, Teresa Hansberger (Tom), and David Ryan (Christina).
Earnest dedicated 20 years of his life to the military as a Communications Chief, demonstrating his commitment and loyalty. Following his military career, he transitioned to becoming a Shipyard Electrician, giving 21 years to this profession until his retirement.
Outside of his professional life, Earnest was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 20 years, selflessly putting himself in harm's way to protect his community. He was also an active member of the Northwest Division of the First Cavalry Association for 20 years and a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus for 30 years.
Earnest was preceded in death by his mother Mary, father Earnest, stepfather Oris Wingard, and siblings Claude, Irene, and Boyd. However, his memory lives on in the hearts of his loved ones. He is survived by his cherished wife, Rose; their children, Earnest Ryan Jr, Teresa Hansberger (Tom), and David Ryan (Christina); five grandchildren, Stephanie Stinnett (Cody), Keven Hansberger, Jade Hansberger (Hank), Georgianna "Gigi", and Isabella "Bella." Earnest was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Jude Stinnett, James Stinnett, Elizabeth Stinnett, Gene Gray, and Addison Gray. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their time spent with him.
Earnest Tolbert Ryan Senior will forever be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his community, and most importantly, his family. His legacy of service, love, and strength will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Our Lady Church Community. A mass to honor Earnest's life will be held on June 15 at Our Lady Star of the Sea. Following that, a graveside service will take place on June 19 at Tahoma National Cemetery. The arrangements are under the caring guidance of Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home.
