

Born on June 27, 1953, in Bremerton, Washington, Jerry was the son of Hank and Nora Fingarson. He grew up on Kitsap Lake, those formative years spent by the water shaped Jerry’s lifelong love for the outdoors. Growing up, sports became a passion. He was a gifted athlete in football, basketball and track at West High, in Bremerton. He graduated from the class of 1972. He went on to play football at Olympic College and Central Washington University.
Jerry earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Washington University in 1978, with additional studies in Marketing and Education. After graduation, he returned to Bremerton and became a Business and Marketing teacher at Bremerton High School. He taught at Bremerton High School for 28 years. Jerry was passionate about entrepreneurship and critical thinking, and he inspired many students to approach life with curiosity and ambition.
In addition to teaching, Jerry was deeply involved in coaching. He dedicated 23 years to coaching varsity football, 17 years to coaching varsity track (including 8 years as head coach), and 5 years to coaching basketball. Jerry’s commitment to his athletes went beyond just the games -they saw him as a mentor and a guide, someone who would help them grow, both as athletes and as people.
In 1984, Jerry launched his commercial crabbing business, “I’ve Got Crabs,” where he catered seafood banquets and built lasting connections within the community. His passion for the Puget Sound and its waters led him to serve on the State of Washington Crab Advisory Board for eight years, where he shared his knowledge of marine operations and fishing practices.
Throughout his life, Jerry remained involved in various jobs and projects, always staying connected to his community. In addition, he was dedicated to his local Church and the close friendships he made there. Whether through teaching, coaching, or just spending time with those he cared about, Jerry’s energy and enthusiasm for life were undeniable.
Jerry is survived by his cousins Bruce and Brian (Julie) Fingarson of which they grew up like brothers on Kitsap Lake together, and many other extended family members. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Jerry’s passing leaves a void in those who knew him, he will be remembered for his zest for life, his ambition, and his deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. His spirit and influence will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Crosby Chapel at 16404 NW Church Rd, Seabeck, WA 98380. An informal gathering will follow at 3:00 pm at Brother Don's Bar and Grill at 4200 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, WA 98312.
