Joe was born in Wyandotte, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan on August 27, 1948. His parents were Louis Rostad and Martha Hendelmeyer. They traveled out to Washington when Joe was young since this is where Louis's parents and other family lived. When growing up, Joe lived in Seattle but came back to Seabeck/Crosby as an adult and lived there until moving to be with Nyla Simonetti in Puyallup. They moved back to Bremerton in 2016.
Joe was a man of many talents and loves. Joe loved ballroom dancing. Since the ladies were aware that Joe really “knew” how to dance, he made it his job to “Show off the lady”. He loved Model T's and purchased several in his lifetime, but his favorite was called “Herman” after his father. Joe's career was that of being a school bus mechanic and even after he retired, he drove school buses. He was so proud of the work he did for Central Kitsap School District. During his life, he earned several certifications for different aspects of auto/bus maintenance. Joe also loved to go to auctions and was always on the hunt for a good deal.
The last 12 years were hard on Joe. He was on dialysis, he was a cancer survivor, he was on oxygen 24/7, and he developed heart problems. Covid hit him hard a few weeks ago and eventually Joe died of a heart attack. He will be missed by his friends especially those in the Crosby community, the Central Kitsap bus garage, auction friends, the dance community, and the Model T club, Kidney Dialysis Center, and other medical people.
Joe is survived by Nyla Simonetti and her son Matthew, his wife Tabitha, and their son, Troy.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Louis and mother Martha.
