Kenneth L. Patterson was born September 24, 1930 in Tacoma, Washington. He grew up in the Tacoma area and graduated from Lincoln High School. Prior to entering the Air Force in 1950 Ken attended Pacific Lutheran University. After serving 3 ½ years at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi he returned to Tacoma, driving his beloved 1940 Pontiac coupe across country. He was in a rush to get home so he could take his girlfriend, Carole to her Jr-Sr Prom. The were married one year later in November 1955.
He learned the banking business at Tacoma Savings and Loan and this career took him to Bremerton, Washington in 1966 where he opened an office for State Savings and Loan. That same year he joined Kitsap Golf and Country Club; later serving on the board when the decision was made to build the current club house.
Ken moved to Kent in the early 1980’s where he opened and operated Patterson Optical until his retirement in 1998. He also became a member of Meridian Valley Golf and Country Club, where he served as a trustee and enjoyed many years playing with members.
Returning to Kitsap in 2000, many will remember Ken for his costume andparticipation in the Breast Cancer fund raiser. KGCC and its members were special friendsof Ken's and heenjoyed many rounds with them.
Ken will be remembered as a passionate golfer who enjoyed the game and was fortunate to experience 5 holes-in-one, and at the age of 74, he shot one less than his age... a 73!
He is survived by his brother Darrell Patterson (Nancy) of Lakewood, Washington, wife Carole, daughter Lauran Erickson (Richard) of Silverdale, daughter Leanne Ehrich (Martin) of Shanghai, China, son Alan Patterson (Sherri) of Gig Harbor, son Tedd Patterson (Cathy) of Camano Island, 7 grandchildren, Gavin (Naisha) Erickson, Margaret & Sage Ehrich, Hanna & Ben Patterson, Gabriel & Garrett Patterson and one great grandson, Liam Erickson. Ken was preceded in death by his father Norman, mother Coral, 4 brothers, Glen, Lester, George and Gordon all of Tacoma.
Golf was Ken’s life. It was his passion & nothing can better express his love for the game than this...
Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated;
it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at
the same time rewarding and maddening - and without a doubt, is the greatest game mankind has ever invented.
