Alice Kerin was born on a wheat farm to Michael Kerin and Mary Kovac, immigrants from Austria/Hungarian Empire, on 1/27/1918 in Wibaux County, Montana joining siblings Helen, Frank, Mary, Michael JR, Anna, Martin, Frances, Joseph, Emma and Josephine. Her mom passed away May 30, 1921, so sister Anna became the woman of the house. Alice went to Prairie View school three miles from home until age 10 when the family farm was sold 1928 then moved in with her brother Martin and wife Effie; Salmon, Idaho. After the 8th grade, Alice moved to Denver, Colorado to attend West Denver High School graduating in 1937. August 1937 her father filled out certificate of birth giving Alice the birthdate of January 27, 1917. At this time Alice changed her name to Margaret Alice Kerin. Moving from Denver in 1939 to Kirkland, Washington to work at a golf course, next in January 1941 the Washington Shipyard until she joined the Army August 1944 serving at Williams Field, Arizona. She was discharged October 1946 and moved to Seattle living on Queen Anne. She met Joseph Fouts at work as he was a PBX installer for Pacific Northwest Bell. They married January 27, 1950 at her sister Mary’s house in Everett. Joseph and Margaret bought a home on Queen Anne; Margaret continued to work downtown Seattle until daughter Karen was born in November. Son James was born 1957. Joseph passed away October 1974, Margaret continued to work for the Engineering department for the city of Seattle until her retirement August 1982. Margaret was a member of Bethany United Presbyterian church in Seattle, part of Ruth circle, helping in the church office, and other behind the scenes activities. She also participated with the Senior center at the Queen Anne Field house, once a month helping to cook for other seniors while she was in her 80’s and 90’s. She sold her home on Queen Anne in 2018 and moved into her daughter Karen’s ADU passing away on May 18, 2024. She leaves behind step daughter Linda McCullough, sons Jon and Eric McCullough, daughter Karen Moore, grandkids Joseph Moore, Elizabeth Newman and Katherine Haynes, step son Gordon Fouts, and Son James Fouts, great grandkids; Lucy, Amy and Ezra Moore, Lily Newman, Garrison and Benson Haynes. Margaret was a very quiet and private person enjoying the groups she was part of. She never complained about anything, very loving and smiling person.
