Margaret (Peggy) Lugg passed away at Harrison Medical Center, Bremerton, WA on March 4, 2017, following a brief illness. Peggy was born on June 15, 1926 to William and Elizabeth Shannon in Litchfield, Illinois. Peggy spent her childhood years in Marion and Staunton Illinois.
Peggy attended MacMurray College and Purdue University. While at Purdue studying to be a Dietitian, she helped develop the recipe for Bisquick. Purdue is also where she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Lugg. After graduation, Peggy worked as a Dietitian in the dorms at the University of Michigan and Bob attended medical school. On September 9, 1949, Peggy married Bob who would be her lifelong love and partner of 55 years.
In 1955 they moved to Port Huron, Michigan where Bob went into private practice as a pediatrician. During their early years while Bob was establishing his practice, Peggy worked in his office doing administrative work. Their daughter, Lois Jane, was born in 1956. Peggy especially enjoyed living on the Great Lakes and being able to sail.
In 1985, after Bob retired from his Pediatrician practice, Bob and Peggy moved to Germany where Bob took a job with the Army. In 1991, they returned to the states and moved to Silverdale, Washington, to be near Lois Jane.
Peggy led a very active life. She loved to travel, flower arranging, art, learning new things, theater and cared deeply that children had opportunities to learn. Peggy was involved in a garden club in Michigan and the Central Valley Garden Club in Silverdale, WA. She was a member of the CK Women’s Club including the “Book Worms” group, the Flower Arrangers Guild, Washington State Science and Engineering Fair, and a past member of the Kitsap County Rose Society. She also attended the Senior Saints exercise class at Kitsap Physical Fitness. Peggy will be remembered by her friends for her spirit of adventure and willingness to try new things.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob. She is survived by her daughter: Lois Jane, sister: Mary Elizabeth Griffing, nieces: Sharon Griffing, Tracy Cassidy and Diane Williams, and cousins: Margaret Hachigian and Dorothy Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 at the Silverdale United Methodist Church, 9982 Silverdale Way NW, Silverdale, WA 98383. Memorial contributions may be made to the Silverdale Methodist Church or the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair.
