Marilyn Joyce Sudbeck

Marilyn was born in Omaha, NE. She spent her youth playing with her friends and cousins, going to the movies, and spending time in the kitchen with her mother. After graduating from high school, Marilyn went on to Wayne State College to pursue a degree in education. There she met lifelong friends and her future husband. Marilyn met her husband, Francis, on a blind date. They were married for 50 years to the date of their first blind date. They raised four children, Mary, Kevin, Chip and Amy. They also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marilyn became a teacher and taught for over 40 years. She taught kindergarten through high school mostly teaching students with special needs. She was a lifelong teacher and learner. Even after she retired, she would volunteer in her daughter’s classroom as she loved being in a school atmosphere.

Marilyn loved to travel from the time she was a young woman as a stewardess for United Airlines until her death. She was always planning her next big trip. Even up to her last days, she was planning a trip to Portugal. She traveled to all 50 states, visited five continents, and many countries. She had many adventures on her trips and loved to reminisce about them.

Marilyn’s other passion besides traveling was her love of quilting. She made many quilts for her family and friends. She would volunteer her time to make quilts for Wounded Warriors, American Red Cross, and other charities. She was part of a quilt guild and the Harrison Hospital guild.

Marilyn was a teacher to hundreds, a mentor to many, and a friend to everyone she met.

A funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Aug. 16 at 9:30.
