Born in Waynesboro Mississippi to Jennie Dubose-Gray and Clinton Gray, she attended Riverview High School in Waynesboro, MS. Onita married Gillom Davis on June 7th 1960 in Wayne County Mississippi and shortly relocated to Bremerton Washington. After moving to Bremerton she became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and where her love of music drew her to the church choir. For several years she was president of the gospel choir and remained part of the church until her death.
Onita was a stay at home mom for her children until they were school age and was a parent volunteer at Westpark Elementary which is the school her children attended.
She was a loyal Seattle Seahawk fan, avid pinochle and spades player willing to challenge any takers. Onita enjoyed Bingo, Pokeno, and Scrabble often creating her own words to gain the advantage. Family was always the focus for Onita, she enjoyed when she was able to travel to Mississippi to visit her family. She also enjoy cooking soul food as she hosted her large extended family. She became a Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt to all that needed.
Some fun facts about Onita: her favorite movies were, Forrest Gump and Footloose. A favorite quote was, “Think about tomorrow when you get to it”. Some of her favorite music was performed by, Rance Allen, Johnny Taylor, Mahaila Jackson, Aretha Franklin, and James Cleveland
Onita retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant from Cyprus Garden Senior Living Center where she worked for many years. She also worked as a cook at Brad’s family restaurant and provided janitorial at Control Janitorial and Well Done Janitorial.
Preceded in death by her parents Clinton and Jennie Dubose Gray. Sister Lillie V. Gray and three brothers; Clarence, Charles and Sid Gray. All from Waynesboro Mississippi.
Survived by husband Gillom Davis. Children Collette Davis, Gregory Davis, Carol Berry, Pamela Crowe, Lavelle Davis. Proud grandma to seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Siblings Clinton (Myrah) Gray Sr. of Sandusky OH, Mertle Williams of Oakland CA, Girtha Gray of Waynesboro MS, Omega (Jesse Lee) Gray-Davis of Waynesboro MS, Merlean (Charles) Gray-Pugh of Hyattsville MD, Jeannette (Charles) Gray-Taylor of Buckatunna MS, Mae Velma (Gressie) Gray-McCarty of Shubuta MS, and James Earl Gray. She also leaves behind sister and brother-in-laws that were like real sisters and brother and several lifelong friends including Claudia Lewis and Martha Goodloe.
