Philip Joseph Thornton, the youngest of four children; Bill, Frank, and beloved twin sister, Phyllis, born to W.P. “Cappy” and Frances Thornton on May 15, 1926, joined his family in heaven on December 4, 2015. He was 89 years old. Philip was most proud of being a US Navy seaman in WWII and the son of Sea Captain. He loved his country and stayed current in politics until he passed. He was a pioneer in the television industry starting his career at KPIX, San Francisco and ending it in LA as a celebrated director for CBS. He retired to live on his boat, The Angelo, becoming a self prescribed “maritime monk.” He was a gifted cartoonist and a lover of classical music. He is survived by his family in California: sister in law, Hibernia Thornton, cousin Phil Pierce, nieces Patricia, Theresa and Cecelia Thornton, nephews Chris and Barry Thornton along with his Washington family: nephews Brett Thornton, Jacques and Philip Moitoret and cousin Francie Jones.
