Bernadine Moy (Lewis) D'Urso, age 89, of Pasadena, Maryland passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, October 23, 2023. Bernadine was born on December 4, 1933 in Washington, D.C., the youngest of six children to the late John Henry Lewis and Ethel Pauline (Lynch) Lewis.
Lovingly known to everyone as ‘Nan’ or ‘Tinky’; she was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother of 4 children, a grandmother to 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She is survived by her daughter Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Lydia Marie (D’Urso) Carpenter, her two sons; Joseph ‘Joe’ Earl D’Urso III and Michele ‘Mike’ Angelo Thomas D’Urso, daughter-in-law Lisa D’Urso, grandchildren (Dawn, Joey, Charlie, Cubby, Timmy, Laura, Jennifer, Kenny, Tina, Nicki, JR, Heather, Thomas, Tiffany and Brooke), great-grandchildren (Scott, Sean, Stephen, Joey, Kyler, Dominic, Jacob, Helena, Cheyanne, Brylee, Adalynn, Emma, Olivia, Avery, Brianna, Logan, KJ, Kayla, Kace, Cody, Missy, Hailey, Braelynn, Anthony, Alicia, JR, Hailey M., Tommy, Sophie, Michelle, Tony, Rafi, Xavier, Jayden, Kilian and Adelaide), great-great-grandchild (Arabella), and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Joseph Earl D’Urso Jr.; her second eldest son, John Henry Clay D’Urso, infant grand-daughter, Lydia Elizabeth D'Urso, and all of her siblings; John Wiley Lewis Sr., Harolyne Linda 'Sissy' (Lewis) Roberts, Elwood Aloysius 'Fritz' Lewis, Sr., Josephine Esther 'Jo' or 'Sugie' (Lewis, Cogle) Frantum, and Regina Mildred 'Peaky' (Lewis) Flemion.
She enjoyed going to the casino and betting on the slot machines, going to bingo, playing poker (but not for pennies – she’d want to play for bigger stakes, up the ante to quarters). She’d cheat at cards of course and her mind would always go to the gutter when playing funny party games, making everyone laugh! She was also very creative and enjoyed crocheting – she’d make a blanket, hat and sweater set for every new baby and beautiful dolls or blankets for everyone that helped care for her. She loved watching Turner Classic Movies, musicals, and Disney (Snow White and Bambi were her favorites). She was such a kid at heart and the simplest things would bring her joy. She had the biggest sweet tooth of anyone you’ll ever meet – seriously, this woman put extra sugar on top of her Fruit Loops! She loved chocolate candy and ice cream. She would get on a kick of eating the same things for a while. Just when you had cleared the grocery store shelves of all their cheddar potato chips, she was on to the next thing and you’d be hunting down ice breaker mints or bueno candies instead. Sending you to the store for ice cream bars she called “chock-cows” and fatback for her clam chowder. Going on trips, baking rum cakes and pumpkin rolls at Christmas time, but most of all just spending time with her family. She was loved by all who knew her and she will remain in our hearts forever
