Diane was born on December 13, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, the oldest daughter of the late Donald and Anita Bartoo. She earned a bachelors and masters degree in Nursing, as well as a masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology. Following her internship, Diane was the first psychologist hired at National Rehabilitation Hospital. She later went into private practice and completed her career as professor at the University of Maryland.
Diane is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joe Goldsmith, their son Daniel Goldsmith, his wife Meghan Goldsmith, and her three grandchildren Matthew, Katherine, and Emily Goldsmith. Diane is also survived by her sister Barbara Bartoo and her children Lindsay, Allison, and Michael. Joyce Bartoo, Diane’s middle sister, passed in an accident in 2015.
A private interment is scheduled for December 12, 2023 at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. A celebration of Diane’s life for family, friends and colleagues will be held early next year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Diane’s name.
