

Dwight Lamont Parker, Sr., a beloved son, father, brother, and friend passed away at home, on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at the age of 78. He was born to Bruce Ward and Elwood Parker in Newport News, VA. Dwight graduated from Huntington High School, class of 1962 and attended Norfolk State University thereafter. He worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 36 years until his retirement.
Dwight was a lifelong member of the Freemasonry, where he participated in countless initiatives in support of the community, charities and higher education. He was the Past Most Excellent Grand High Priest, of the Most Excellent Adolphus P. Hall Grand Chapter, where he was held in high regard. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Deanwood, in Washington, DC.
Dwight was preceded in death by his late wife of 11 years, Joyce Ann Parker and more recently, his life partner of more than 16 years, Delores Ann Jones, affectionally known as “Queen”. He was the oldest of eight children. Dwight is survived by his mother, Bruce Ward, four brothers Michael Ward, Sr. (Patsy), James Ward (Jeion), Joseph Ward, Sr. (Brenda), Donald Ward and one sister, Audrey Alexander. He was preceded in death by brothers, Marshall Ward and Gregory Ward, Sr.
Dwight leaves to cherish his memory, three children Dwight L. Parker, Jr. (Joann), Nicole Z. Parker (Ray Singleton) and Damion N. Parker (Jackie). He was affectionally known as “Dad” by Lynise Robinson and Delon Murray who were like his children. Dwight was a dedicated caregiver and guardian to eight-year-old, Chasity Murray. She endearingly called him “Poppi” and was like his shadow. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Ebony Vann, Hakeem Parker, Myron Jimmerson, Jr., Alex Berkley, Brittany Jones, Alfred Jones, Chelsea Johnson, Dazia Parker and Nyla Parker and host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dwight will always be remembered for his many adages such as, “All is Well”, “Business is Business”, “Rolling with the Hot Sauce” and many more. He lived life with a fierce dedication to those he loved and adored. He enjoyed reading memoirs and history books that enlightened and empowered. He enjoyed traveling the country in support of the many Masonic chapters in which he was involved. Dwight’s voice commanded a room and captured the attention of the young and old alike. He will forever be remembered as a great mentor, teacher, and confidant, as he always encouraged self-improvement.
