

Edgar Leon Applewhite, affectionately known as “Spoo Jack”
was born June 28, 1955 to Willie V. Applewhite “Bee Bee” and
James Edgar Applewhite, in Wilson County, Wilson, NC. He
attended South Green High School in Snow Hill, NC and later
Darden High School in Wilson, NC.
Edgar relished in making his friends and family laugh like there
was no tomorrow. His favorite foods were fish, crabs, pineapple
cake, barbecue, slaw and the infamous chitterlings.
A picture of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. hung from his wall,
serving as his daily inspiration to persevere through life.
Edgar was a vivacious man, who loved life and tried to live
everyday with joy and excitement. He was spontaneous and full
of laughter. He had a loving spirit and tried to share his love
with all those he knew; everyone was family to him and he went
out of his way to help you if he could.
He attended St. Delight Baptist Church and Paul Chapel Church
in Walstonburg, NC.
Edgar relocated to Washington, DC where he worked at
Sheraton Hotel, Greyhound Bus Company as an operator, People
Drug Warehouse, Safeway Food Company and Giant Food.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Caroline
Applewhite; grandmother, Daisel Best, and grandfather, Albert
Best.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Margaret Evette
Applewhite; brothers, Perry Applewhite (Theresa) and Dennis
R. Applewhite; sisters, Carol Applewhite, Joyce Applewhite and
Delores Applewhite; one aunt, Eva Ellis of Wilson, NC; special
cousin, Betty Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving
relatives and friends.
