On July 13, 2020 our beloved brother Gary “Solga” Solgalym Heureaux passed away peacefully in his sleep at the tender age of 38. Solga was born on June 16, 1982 to Gadis and Felicita Heureaux. He was born in Washington, DC and raised in Seat Pleasant, MD. He was the third born of five siblings.
During Solga’s upbringing, he attended various schools in the Prince George's County Public Schools system. He obtained his high school diploma from Bowie High School. Solga was a gifted athlete and developed a love for sports growing up in Seat Pleasant. He was passionate about his heritage (Dominican/ Salvadoran) and the neighborhood where he was raised (Seat Pleasant Finest). The sport he excelled at the most was basketball and was known to be a left-handed sharpshooter. He was a Philadelphia Eagles fan in a divided NFC East household. When watching NFL (NFC East) games with family and friends, it made the experience that more meaningful.
While at Bowie High School, Solga met Crystal who would later become the love of his life and the two began their life journey. On September 26, 2004 they welcomed their first-born son Dylan and seven years thereafter, Daylan was born on January 18, 2011. Solga was a family first man which was a trait instilled in him from his parents. All who knew Solga understood that he was a devoted father. He was present for every milestone, back to school night, football game/practice for his boys who he referred to as “son-son.” He instilled valuable characteristics in his children which included being respectful, generous, hardworking and dedication to name a few.
As time progressed after High School, Solga maintained various jobs. He discovered a passion for music where he produced his debut album called “Hard Truth” which would turn into his favorite slogan. This meant there is no escaping the realities of life in its most raw and uncut form. He would later resort back to his roots and true passion of cooking. This skill/ talent of cooking was God given and hereditary. His father has worked in the restaurant industry for years and his family always cooked big meals for the holidays. This would be Solga’s purpose in life outside his family. In the fall of 2018, he met his mentor. From this networking encounter, his career started to trend in the direction he prayed and dreamed of. Solga cooked with a passion. He found pleasure in preparing meals for people to enjoy which made his heart happy. One of his proudest moments is when he cooked alongside some of the most world-renowned chefs at the James Beard House. This was a complete honor. When he unexpectedly departed, Solga was well on his way to reap the benefits from the fruits of his labor. His mentor saw fit for Solga to run the Victory Maryland restaurant. The characteristics that were instilled in him, that Solga instilled in his “son-sons” were paying off. A picture of Solga should pop up in the dictionary when the words loyalty, dedication, leadership, and hard work are seen.
Solga had an infectious spirit and if you knew him forever or just met him, the love was genuine. We will all miss Solga is an understatement but in true Solga form he'll say, " Bro I'm good, love you bruh!” Solga leaves behind his lifelong partner Crystal, two sons Dylan and Daylan. Mother (Felicita), Father (Gadis), three brothers Omar, Gary, Carlos and one sister Gaby (Trey Porter). He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
