Hazel Cecelia Osman went home to be with the Lord on September 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with illness. She was born in Washington, D.C., on July 1, 1939, to the late James Thomas White and Evelyn Sara White. The youngest of six children, Hazel grew up surrounded by a close-knit family.
She was the loving mother of two daughters, the late Germaine Cecelia White and Mona Awad Osman. Hazel’s pride and joy was her family—especially her beloved grandson, Donald Harris, and her great-granddaughter, Amira Harris.
A talented seamstress, Hazel had a passion for sewing and created beautiful clothing and home décor items, including drapes and even upholstery—until her eyesight began to fail. Her creativity and craftsmanship were shared by her siblings. Professionally, she worked in retail until her retirement, where she was known for her dedication and warm personality.
Hazel was a devoted member of Faith Independent Baptist Church. Her faith was central to her life, and she longed to be active in the church, whether it was listening to the preaching or helping with cleaning. Even when her health prevented her from attending, her heart remained with her church family. She deeply desired to serve God in any way she could.
Hazel leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Mona Osman; grandson Donald Harris (Cecily); great-granddaughter Amira Harris; best friend of sixty years, Barbara Green; godson Darryl Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, and her beloved church family.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Germaine White, her parents, and her siblings: Helen Williams, Anna Mae Head, Evelyn Ernestine Doughtery, James Leonard White, and Shirley Fontaine.
Hazel's life was one of love, faith, and service. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered
