Jay Anthony “Tony” Evans was born on October 27, 1949, in Washington, D.C., to the late Jay “Chink” Evans and Portia Ann Evans (Malone). On Monday, February 16, 2026, he peacefully departed this life at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Tony was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System. He was a self-taught, highly skilled, and talented electrician, who took great pride in his craft, no job was ever too tough for him to handle. Over the years, he became quite the handyman, mastering home improvement projects and always finding a way to fix, or improve just about anything. His hands were rarely still, and his work spoke for itself. Through hard work and determination, he built a life defined by resilience, strength, and quiet excellence.
Tony lived a long and prosperous life filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. Known as the life of the party, Tony was stubborn in the most endearing way, quick-witted, and always ready with a joke, whether it was funny or not. He never met a stranger that he did not call a friend. He was kindhearted and generous to his core; he would give you his last if you needed it. His warmth, humor, and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Tony’s precious memories will be forever cherished by his daughters, Markita McNair (Lonnie) of Brandywine, Maryland; Tamika Evans of Capital Heights, Maryland and Charmisa Evans; his sister, Judy Young of District Heights, Maryland; his brothers, Steve Evans and Ronnie Evans, both of Washington, D.C.; his grandson, Eric McNair of Brandywine, Maryland; his granddaughter, Trinity Brantley of Capital Heights, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Keith Evans and Gary Evans.
Tony’s legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and generosity will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, located at 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD, 20722, US. The service is scheduled for March 9, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
