whole in the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 27, 2023, following a long battle of health challenges.
Juanita and the late Eugene Benjamin, Sr. raised their three children in Seat Pleasant, MD.
Juanita worked at the Department of Housing and Urban Development for 33 years as a
Financial Operations Analyst. She received many certificates and awards throughout her career.
She was a member of New Chapel Baptist Church and served in the nursing/missionary
ministry for more than 20 years. Juanita was always concerned about others. She loved
spending time in the kitchen preparing some of her special dishes, especially baked
goods. She was well known for her cakes made from scratch, and affectionately called “the
Cake Lady!” Like her mother, she has carried on the tradition of baking an assortment of
cakes, pies, and souffles for family, neighbors, and anyone with a sweet tooth for signature
chocolate cake. Often without regard to her own circumstances, when the phone rang with
a request for a cake, she found the strength to honor the request. Her son and daughter
carry on their mother’s legacy of caring for others no matter what they may be dealing with in their own lives.
Juanita was preceded in death by brothers Julius, Lonnie, and Jessie; and one son, James Irving
Benjamin. She is survived by her brothers Carroll (Margo), Harold (Cynthia), and Donald (Nancy);
her son, Eugene, Jr. (Paula) and her daughter, Yvette; three grandchildren, Jasmine, and Cameron
Benjamin, Amber Robinson; and two great-granddaughters, Emory and Ivory Cooper. The extended
family and close friends left to cherish her memory include a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews from the Staten and Benjamin families.
