

Juanita Kennedy Horton, affectionately known as "Pena" was born November 16,1929 in Washington, D.C. to the late Hazel and Ernest Kennedy. Juanita passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at home, surrounded by family. She was the oldest of six children. Three siblings preceded her in death.
Juanita attended D.C. Public Schools, where she graduated from Dunbar Senior High School in 1946.
Juanita met John Virgil Horton, known by many as Buster (deceased), whom she married in 1947. From this union, seven children were born; Curtis (preceded her in death), Alfred, Jeffrey, Jacqueline (preceded her in death), Karen, Wayne and Keith.
Juanita worked for a while at Sibley Memorial Hospital in the Dietary Department. On May 5, 1969, she became employed with the federal government, working at the Government Printing Office. After more than twenty years of service, she retired.
She was one who liked to keep busy. Some of her favorite pastimes were knitting, completing crossword puzzles, reading, and traveling. She also enjoyed watching her westerns on television and dancing. But most of all, her biggest joy was spending time with her family and close friends.
Juanita leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Alfred (Jean), Jeffrey, Karen Perry (Milton), Wayne and Keith (Tema), Gary Grimes (whom loved her dearly and she treated as one of her own); eleven grandchildren: Donnell, Derek, Jamaal, April, Kisha, Reginald, Cameron, Lakeisha, Darnika, Delonte', and Johnae; thirteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Barbara Smith and Shirley Davis (Roy); and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her grandson Brian Duncan and loving daughter-in-law Linda Horton.
