

Julie was a devoted Catholic and lived her life in service to God and others. She was an exemplary example of faith, love, and kindness to all who knew her. Her unwavering commitment to her beliefs was a constant inspiration to those around her, and she touched the lives of many through her generosity, compassion, and selflessness.
Born in Washington D.C., Julie was the first child of Bernard and Julia Holmes. She attended St. John the Baptist de La Salle Elementary School in Chillum, MD followed by Regina High School in Adelphi, MD. Julie received her bachelor’s degree from The Catholic University of America. Julie worked for many years in customer services with Suburban Bank and Bank of America. Julie did administrative work in a variety of companies. She spent many years working as both a unit secretary and certified nursing assistant in the psychiatric unit at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Julie would decorate the unit to make it cheerful for the residents at every holiday and she would buy gifts to the patients. A lifelong learner, Julie also acquired her LPN license through Frederick Community College and began working that field including at Washington Hospital Center.
In addition to Julie’s professional work, she devoted herself full-time to a variety of volunteer positions and charitable works. Julie was an active member of her parish of St. Joseph in Emmitsburg, MD. She was also very active at Mount St. Mary’s University’s in Emmitsburg where she was a cantor and a member of the choir at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and a volunteer for various youth outreach programs. She helped at the “Mount 2000” youth yearly spiritual weekend event from 1997 to 2018. Some of Julie’s other volunteer work included Mission of Mercy health clinic, Habitat for Humanity, Catoctin Pregnancy Center, Frederick Memorial Hospital Hospice , the American Red Cross and the annual Middletown, MD fox hunt. Her dedication to her faith and her community was an inspiration to all who knew her.
In her free time, Julie enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling with her friends, and having a passionate interest in cinema and performances in the arts. Julie was also a food enthusiast who was always willing to try a new cuisine or often times created her own. Julie loved writing and even attended a Shakespeare workshop in Stratford on Avon, England. An interest in space led Julie to follow the latest news from NASA and as an adult she attended Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Julie had many talents and even learned to make vestments for her seminarian friends. Julie was always on top of the current events of the world and shared her interests and knowledge with others.
Julie loved her family and she was a devoted aunt to her nieces Jerica Nergis Qureshi, Addisyn Lemus and nephews Imran Khan, Julian Holmes, Maddox Qureshi, and Zayn Qureshi. Julie is survived by her mother, Julia Holmes, and her siblings, John Holmes and Jendi Nadia Manatan along with their families. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
We take comfort in knowing that Julie is now at peace and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her. Her spirit and legacy will live on through those whose lives she touched, and we will forever be grateful for the time we shared with her. Rest in peace, dear Julie. You will always be remembered with love and gratitude.
