

On December 26, 1946, a true Washingtonian was born. Kenneth William Sparrow Sr. (Birdman) was born to the late Augustus and Audrey Sparrow. He was the third out of four children. As a child his family was a fixture of Galbraith A.M.E Church. He attended DC Public Schools, graduating from McKinley Tech in 1965. He enrolled in Shaw University (N. C.) where he majored in Education. He would later propose and marry Renee B. Moss in 1968. It was during his sophomore year at Shaw University that he was drafted into the Air Force. There he fought doing two tours of the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Staff Sargeant. After serving the war he remained in the service and traveled with his then wife (Renee M. Sparrow) and 4 children to The Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, North Carolina, Georgia, and Delaware. Their union lasted approximately 20 years.
In the late 80’s he met the person who he would spend the rest of his life with, Yvonne Stringer. During their union he co parented and assisted in raising her two daughters, Dana and Nikki. He and Yvonne spent over 30 years devoted to each other in sickness, health, and as the best of friends. They enjoyed attending social gatherings and traveling. They always shared intimate conversation over dinner every Sunday.
Kenneth was a hobby enthusiast. You could catch him working on model cars, planes, and trains. He enjoyed home improvement projects, feeding the birds, kite flying, bike riding, and listening to music from the 60',70’s and 80’s. He was always on the go. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He was loved and will be missed.
He lives to cherish his memory: his beloved wife; Yvonne Stringer-Sparrow, Children; Kenneth Sparrow, Jr., Kevin Sparrow(predeceased), Karlton Sparrow, Kimberly Sparrow Gillum, Dana, and Nakia Stringer. Daughter-in-law; Cherese Sparrow, Son-in-laws; TC, Andre, Mother-in-law; Margaret Lyles, Grandchildren; Darius Stewart, Kashmere Dyson, Darrin Stewart Jr, Kennedy Sparrow, Khadija Sparrow, Dimitri Washington, Kevin Anderson, Kimeisha Sinclair, Diamond Sinclair, India Gillum, Takayla Gillum, Timothy Stringer, Andrew Stringer, Malaka Stringer, and Roneka Stringer Great Grandchildren; Amari Greenleaf, Ameena Stringer, Kameron Anderson, K’Lani-Messiah Morton, Sevyn Shelton, 4 sister in laws, 8 brother in laws, and an abundance of nieces, nephews, and friends.
