

Lois Yvonne Ball was born on May 21, 1930, in the Ivy City neighborhood of Washington, D.C., to the late Lillian and Leroy Lamont, Sr. The oldest of nine children, she was preceded in death by all her siblings: Leroy Lamont, Jr., Lawan Tolson, Lawrence Lamont, Leonard Lamont, Lloyd Lamont, Lowell Lamont, Leon Lamont, and Lola Lamont. Lois was educated in the D.C. Public School System, where she discovered and refined her lifelong passion and talent for sewing.
On March 21, 1953, she married the love of her life, Horace W. Ball, Sr. Their loving union was blessed with four children: Janice, Horace, Jr., Anthony, and Angela. In 1969, Lois began her career with the A&P Coffee Company as a Coffee Production Associate. Through her dedication, strong work ethic, and loyalty, she faithfully served the company for 24 years before retiring in January of 1993.
Family was the cornerstone of Lois’s life. She warmly welcomed family and friends into her home, and her face would always light up with joy when everyone was together. Gifted with an incredible talent for sewing, she used her skills to lovingly serve others. From an early age, she sewed clothes for her sister, and went on to create stunning wedding party gowns, special occasion dresses, and alterations for family and friends. Her generosity and creativity were beautifully reflected in every stitch she made.
Lois embraced her role as the family matriarch by always advocating for and supporting those she loved. She was never hesitant to lend a helping hand—or to share her thoughtful advice. Possessing a true passion for life, Lois was always ready for the next adventure. She loved traveling to new places, experiencing the thrill of a good casino, and spending hours around the table playing card games with family and friends. Renowned for her commanding presence, kindness, and vibrant spirit, she was a woman who was truly resilient, loving, and full of life.
Lois peacefully departed this life on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her four loving children: Janice Ashton, Horace Ball, Jr., Anthony Ball, and Angela Cannon; seven grandchildren: Courtni Ball, Krystal (Joseph, Sr.) Porter, Cameron (Tara) Ball, Lori Cannon, Alexander Ball, Lauren Ball, and Mya Ball; the mothers of her grandchildren: Letitia Ball, Sandra Ball, and Kelly Ball; and three great-grandchildren: Eliana Ball, Cameron Ball, and Joseph Porter, Jr.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, honorary grandchildren, close family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
