Margaret Ann Tribby

Margaret “Maggie” A. Tribby passed away on January 21, 2023, of natural causes at Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, FL. Maggie was born on July 13, 1926, in Washington, D.C. to the late Charles and Margaret (Hildebrand) Tribby. Her family had long-standing roots In Washington, D.C. Her father, grandfather, and great grandfather, all named Charles, were native Washingtonians. The family owned the well-known Tribby’s Jewelers in Washington, D.C.

Maggie lived most of her life in Washington, D.C., then Fairhaven, MD, while wintering in St. Petersburg Beach, FL for many years. In 2005 she moved to Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers.

During World War II, at the age of 18, she was a volunteer bus driver for the American Red Cross, transporting military personnel in the Metropolitan DC/MD/VA area.

When she was 26, she became President of Tribby Properties and Charles E. Tribby Real Estate, Inc. her family real estate business and later President of Pershing House, Inc., which she very successfully managed for many, many years.

Maggie loved the Chesapeake Bay and spent a lot of time on her porch with a great view of the Bay. She loved boating, traveling, and gardening. Dear to her heart was the National Zoo and, as such, was a FONZ member.

Maggie was very philanthropic throughout her life-always helping others where there was a need. Because of her joyful giving, she was a true example of “it is more blessed to give than to receive”. Her most significant legacy “The Tribby Arts Center” at Shell Point, testifies to her generous spirit and her wish to help make Shell Point a place of beauty and joy for all of its residents.

Maggie will be greatly missed by her family and many special long-time friends.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Ft. Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Village Church at Shell Point, 15100 Shell Point Boulevard, Ft. Myers, FL 33908
