Melissa Theresa Knight was born November 28, 1979 to Michael (deceased) and Yvette McKelvin Sr in Washington, DC. Melissa was raised in Washington DC where she attended DC Public Schools. She attended Shaed Elementary , Langley Jr High, and Margaret Washington Career High School. At Margaret Washington Melissa found her love for nursing.

After graduating high school, Melissa pursued her passion for helping others by attending nursing school, where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She went on to become a dedicated nurse, touching countless lives with her care, compassion, and professionalism.

In 2000, she married the love of her life, DuWayne Knight Sr., and together they built a strong, loving family.

Melissa was a proud and nurturing mother to six children: Makelle, DuWayne Jr., Devin, DaJuan, Malia, and Damoni. Her children were the center of her world, and she poured her heart into raising them with strength and grace. Melissa had a special bond with her mom and a strong bond with her siblings. She loved any family event to congregate, cook ,laugh and enjoy one another.

Melissa was the heart of her home known as the family’s beloved cook, she brought everyone together with her famous Sunday dinners, a cherished tradition that filled her home with warmth, laughter, and love. She always lent a helping hand, even when she had little to give, and her kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Melissa’s legacy of love, strength, and selflessness lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her.

Melissa leaves to cherish her memory husband DuWayne Sr, children Makelle, DuWayne Jr, Devin, DaJuan, Malia and Damoni. Mother,Yvette, Father,Michael (preceded in death) Grandchildren, Kaiser, Knoxiir and Mahzi. Siblings Michaele (Harry), Michael Jr (preceded in death), Monique (Troy), Maurice, Kourtnee, Kendra, Kevin, Keon and Kywan. 7 nephews Antonio, Duane, Harry, D’marco, Dominick,Ni’Quan,Kaiden,3 nieces, Ayan, Mariah and Kodi. 9 aunts and a host of cousins and extended family.
