Melvin Thaddeus King, 92, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, peacefully passed away on December 27, 2020. Born in the District of Columbia to William L. King and Elizabeth Fletcher, Deacon King was a member of Sylvan Vista Baptist Church where he was the Father of the Church and Chairman of the Deacon Board. He served in the United States Army and Reserves for over thirty years. During his years of Service, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, twice awarded the Korean Service Medal, Occupational Medal (Japan), and the United Nations Service Medal. In 1974, he became a member of Carver Unity Lodge #5 A.F. & A.M. of Washington D.C. He was an active member of St. John Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Inc. and Adah Grand Chapter of Washington D.C. Melvin King is survived by longtime companion and caregiver, Nancy Smith, a host of extended family, friends and colleagues. Pastor Charles Maldon, Sr., Eulogist. Services will be live streamed and held on Saturday, January 16th, 9:30 am, at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home & Cemetery, Brentwood, Maryland. In lieu of flowers and gifts, any charitable donations may be made to Melvin King's favorite charity, St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
