Raymond Roosevelt Shedrick was born on April 8, 1958, to the union of the late John and Jeannette Shedrick, in Scotland, Maryland. He was educated initially in Montgomery County and then Prince Georges County, when the family moved to Landover, Maryland.
Raymond worked as a building and landscape independent contractor, enjoying the freedom his work offered. Raymond extended his skills to his family, friends, and his community, always willing to lend a helping hand to all. During his stay in Washington, DC on Rock Creek Church Road, Raymond was often lovingly referred to as the mayor, where he looked out for those in need, even when he was not feeling well. He was often seen driving around in his faithful truck named Blue, either leaving to go to a job or returning from a job. He loved his Rock Creek Church Road friends as much as his Ardmore/Landover friends.
Raymond enjoyed sports in general, but he loved his Cowboys football team. Other than his sports, Raymond tended to his garden for years, growing his tomatoes and cucumbers, among other plants. Raymond also looked forward to preparing fruitcake annually with his mother, who he referred to her by her name Jeannette. He also enjoyed being in the company of babies and toddlers, holding and playfully teasing them.
On January 28, 2025, Raymond crossed over while a resident at the Largo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a lengthy battle with multiple health issues. Raymond found a home and family among the staff and the residents at the Rehab Center. The staff would often say with a smile, that if you wanted to know what was going on at the Rehab Center, just ask Raymond. Fortunately, Raymond and family had the opportunity to express their appreciation for the Rehab Center by ensuring that everyone received holiday cards and goodies this past Christmas.
Raymond was preceded in life by his parents, John, and Jeannette Shedrick and two sisters, Flora Shedrick and Aretha Edwards. He leaves behind four siblings, John Shedrick, Delora Tapscott (Glenn), Andre Shedrick and Jeannette Jefferson; four daughters: Nikia DeJan, Raishaun Brooks, Soraya Scott, and Shawna Williams; his grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends, including his special relationship with Carolyn Criswell and Ricky Jarrett.
Raymond’s presence and smile will be sorely missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.
