Reginald “Reggie” Downs (66) was known to host great parties. He was an intellectual with a wicked sense of humor that loved learning, reading and mentoring. Most notably, Reggie was a man of faith and loved Jesus. Those who knew Reggie best, would say he was a devoted Christian, generous, loved to laugh, travel and enjoy a good meal. His favorite holiday was Christmas when he brought loved ones together for his epic tree trimming party.
Reggie was a native Washingtonian, obtaining Master’s degrees from the University of the District of Columbia and Catholic University of America. He retired from the Library of Congress, with over 40 years of service, as a Reference Librarian. Reggie also worked as a Reference Librarian in the District of Columbia Public Library system for over 10 years.
Reggie is preceded in death by his parents Irving and Alice Downs, Sr., siblings Edward, Irving Jr. and Barbara. Survived by siblings Christine, Theresa, Lorraine, Mary, James Jr., and a host of relatives and friends. The family thanks those who checked in on Reggie during his illness. We especially thank Christopher Roberts for his unwavering loyalty and friendship to his “Big Bro.”
In lieu of flowers and in recognition of Reggie’s faith, please make donations in his honor to the following: Trinity Broadcasting Network and/or Benny Hinn Ministries.
My home is in Heaven, I’m just traveling through this world.
