

Sandra Okoro, affectionately known to many as “Sandy,” passed away peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. She was born in Washington, D.C., on June 13, 1947, to the late Samuel Trent and Virginia Beatrice Smith. Sandra was the youngest of five siblings.
She was educated in the D.C. Public School System, attending Grimke Elementary, Shaw Middle School, and graduating from Cardozo High School in 1965. A gifted and motivated student, Sandra enrolled at the Howard University School of Music at the age of 15, earning extracurricular credit, and learning to play the violin. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, Sandra earned an associate degree in Business Administration from Strayer College. While in college, she met and married Paulinus Okoro in 1967. From their union came two beloved sons, Michael and Paul Okoro. Following her education, Sandra began a long and dedicated career with the D.C. Government. She served as an Administrative Assistant in the Human Resources Services department, faithfully working for 25 years before retiring. Sandra’s life was filled with joy, purpose, and faith. She found great happiness in attending church services, gardening, cooking for her family and friends, visiting casinos, and entertaining loved ones.
A devout Christian, Sandra was baptized in 1961 and remained a devoted member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. Later in life, she attended LTWM (Living The Word Ministries) and continued to worship faithfully.
Sandra leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted sons, Michael and Paul Okoro; her loving brother, Robert N. Smith; her daughter-in-law, Andrea Okoro; and two adored grandchildren, Jada and Ikem Okoro. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sisters: Anna Lyons, Audrey Vanison, and Marla Smith. Sandra’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered and treasured
Visitation for Sandra will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Rd., Brentwood, MD. Funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow services at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
