Susan A. Johnson Webster, 73 of Hyattsville passed away after an illness on January 26, 2023, at Holy Cross Hospital. She was the daughter of the late James “Toots” Johnson and Eva Mae Dennie Johnson. She was born on October 4, 1949, in Crumpler, WV. She attended McDowell County Public Schools and graduated from Northfork High School in 1967. Susan was recruited from Northfork High School by the FBI in Washington, DC. She left West Virginia days after graduation and started her federal government career at the age of 17. She worked for several agencies including the Department of Energy, the Government of the District of Columbia, and the United States Department of State. In 2010, Susan retired from federal service after working consistently for 43 years. During her career she helped and encouraged many of her friends and family members to seek employment with the federal government.
In 1968, Susan met James E. Webster, Jr. On May 3, 1969, the couple joined in holy matrimony. They celebrated 51 years of marriage until James’ passing in 2020. To this union was born one daughter (Renee) and one son (Derek). She loved her children dearly. She was a devoted and dedicated mother. She also loved her family and lifelong friends. Throughout the years she attended numerous events to support and celebrate with those she loved. Susan was the family historian who remembered everyone’s birthdays. She also loved the “Oldies but Goodies” music played on segments like the “Quiet Storm.”
Over the last two years, Susan beat/overcame her battle with cancer. She was proud of how she fought & won. The Oncologists didn't even expect the radiation to handle the cancer, but it did. Her son lovingly cared for her and attended her every need. She often stated how he did everything for her. Derek was also her “ride along” as they ventured out to explore and enjoy new places or businesses together. Her daughter made sure to faithfully call twice daily to support her mom with encouragement and a listening ear. Susan called Renee her “biggest cheerleader” throughout her cancer radiation treatments and concerning her living a healthier lifestyle. The conversations with her mom were always the brightest part of Renee’s day. Susan and Renee loved to watch their favorite shows together and talk about them afterwards. “Queen Sugar” was their favorite show of all. Daniel Jackson lovingly provided his support by driving her to some of her appointments.
Susan was preceded by her parents and her sister, Janice A. Johnson. She leaves to mourn her memory her daughter Renee Joi Webster, (Daniel Jackson) Riverdale, MD; her son Derek Keith Webster, Hyattsville, MD; her brother James E. “Jimmy” Johnson (Lena) Dale City, VA; her sister Carrie J.
