Vestal Compton

Vestal “Beck” Compton of Clinton, MD passed away Sunday, 3 May 2026 at Bowie Assisted Living in Bowie, MD where he had been a resident for the past two years. A viewing will be held at 12:30 PM Saturday, 30 May 2026 followed by a gravesite service at 1:30 PM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the service.

Born 26 October 1938 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Howard H. and Selma (nee Johnston) Compton. He grew up in Cottage City, MD and was one of 13 children. He was the loving husband of the late Marie E. O’Brien to whom he was married for 54 years.

Vestal became a watch repairman like his father and later worked in Equipment Maintenance for the US Postal Service. He enjoyed his family, annual family picnics, camping, duckpin bowling and was an avid Washington Redskins fan.

He is survived by his children, Monica and her husband Jim Korczyk; John and his wife Brenda; Ronald “Ronny”; and Darleen and her husband Gene Cline. He has six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren (two in heaven). He is survived by his brothers, Hubert “Huck”; Edward “Eddie” and his wife Earleen; Herman; Leroy and his wife Connie; and Donald “Donny” and his wife Mary; sister-in-law Adele Compton; and brother-in-law Carl Jones and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Marie, he was preceded in death by his brothers Henry; and Gilbert and his wife Sandy; and his sisters Arline and her husband Frank Cramblitt; Katherine and her husband Fred Richardson; Edna (Shifflett); Jean and her husband Larry Muchinsky; and Dianna (Jones).
