Wade Anthony Powell, Senior was born September 5, 1964, in Washington, DC to Edith Geneva Egypt and the late James R. Graham. Two sons were born of this union. His mother remarried to the late Charles M. Powell, who adopted Wade and his brother Edwin Keith (deceased March 20, 2021) in 1976. Wade attended Nannie Helen Burroughs and Webb Elementary schools in Washington, DC. The family later moved to Prince Georges County, Maryland where he attended Kenmore Junior High and graduated from Fairmount Heights High School in 1982. He was a very avid track star in high school and was eligible to receive a track scholarship to Florida AM College, but he made the decision to turn it down. During Wade’s younger years, he and his brother were active in the Boy Scouts and Karate classes where they completed training for their brown belts.
Wade did a brief stint with the U.S. Army. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart, Pamela D. Horton (Pam) in 1988. Two sons were born of this union…Wade Anthony, Jr., and Dwayne Keith. As youngsters, the boys were very active in basketball and football, playing on the neighborhood’s PG County sports team. Pam was their team “Mom.” By the time his sons entered Charles Flowers High School, they were very active in track, basketball, and especially football. They both played on Flowers’ football team. Wade and Pam attended most of their games and were very proud parents.
Wade began his career as a Security Guard. Later, he took a position as a bus driver with Metro. He was also a Lineman with the company. After over 20 years, he resigned from Metro and later took a position as bus driver with the D.C. Circulater. He truly enjoyed his job and was well respected by his colleagues.
Wade had a love of sports, especially football. His favorite team was the Washington Commanders (Redskins)! He also enjoyed watching old TV westerns. Wade loved his family very much and was so proud of his sons and what they had accomplished in their adulthood.
Wade was preceded in death by his brother “Eddie”, his father and stepfather. He leaves to cherish his memory…wife, Pamela D. Powell; sons, Wade A. Jr., and Dwayne Keith; sister, Laikisha Jefferies; mother, Edith G. Egypt, and a host of other relatives, loved ones, and friends.
Goodbye Dad…
Heaven has received another angel, the night sky, another star.
Your life has become a loving memory; we know you will never be far.
We know you are watching over us as our life goes on.
We will reassure the memories we have of you; we can’t believe you’re gone.
You were a loving and caring Dad. You were there for us a lot.
You will always hold a place in our heart…a loving, treasured spot.
You were really one in a million, a cut above the rest.
All who knew you would agree, you simply were the best!
So, Dad, we will say goodbye; we love and miss you with all our heart,
But as long as we have our loving memories, we will never be too far apart.
From your loving Sons, Wade Jr., and Dwayne Keith
From the Family…..
Gone is the face we loved so dear, silent is the voice we loved to hear.
Too far away from sight or speech, but not too far for thoughts to reach.
We miss the things we shared and the things you did with us to show you
We miss the things you did with us to show you really loved and cared.
