

He was born in Alliance Nebraska. His parents were Samuel Harry Loomis and Maude Helena (Rubottom) Loomis. He was raised twenty miles east of Angora on a ranch. When Fred was young he took flying lessons and he enjoyed flying. He also loved raising quarter horses and training them to ride.
When Fred was nine years old he helped his dad and neighbors trail yearling cattle twenty miles to the Bonner Stock Pens by the tracks at Angora. They loaded the cattle into stock cars and shipped them to the Omaha stock yards. Later on he helped trail yearling cattle from twenty miles east of Angora to the Alliance sale barn in the fall. He also started mowing and scatter raking wild hay with work horses, Sally Ann and Jimmy. Fred rode horse-back to country school, district number ninety-two, when he was a boy.
Fred ranched twenty-one miles northeast of Broadwater until his retirement in 2009. He then moved to Broadwater Nebraska to live. Fred was on the school district, number five school board and served as treasurer.
Fred married Darlene Severson, January 22, 1962 in Munich Germany. Fred was drafted into the Army and was then stationed at Munich Germany. They honeymooned in Switzerland, Italy, and Austria while there. To this union were born five children.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Mary Lou Dewitt (Mitchell NE), Della Chavez (Belen, NM.); and one brother, Raymond Joe Loomis (Angora, NE).
Survivors include Fred’s wife Darlene Loomis of fifty two years; children, Becky (Dean) McLaughin (Alliance, NE), Sheri (Matt) Kihlthau (Gering, NE), Lori Loomis (Wayne Kneebone) (Mitchell, NE), Cary Leithead (Broadwater, NE), Cody (Naomi) Loomis. (Broadwater, NE); Sisters: Rosanna (Roy) Townsend, Edith (Keith) McGrew; Sister-in-law, Dianna Loomis; Brother, Art Loomis.
Fred was a grandpa to three sets of twins, for a total of sixteen grandchildren; Kimmi, Brett, Collin, Dustin, Britni, Michael, Kacee, Lacee, Cassie, Lindsie, Logen, Cole, Cade, Kason, Reata, and Ryder; Great grandchildren: Mary, Sammie, and Alivia; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport, NE. on Friday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m. Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard and The Sons of the American Legion. Memorials may be sent to the Fred Loomis Memorial account at Platte Valley Banks. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.bbchapels.com. Bridgeport Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
